Every computer(-like) system has a processor at the heart of its system. Throughout this program you have encountered a number of them already, in different sizes and with different capabilities. There was the Arduino in 2Ba which has an 8-bit Atmel AVR controller; the (most recent version of) SoC-lab course uses the 32-bit soft-core MicroBlaze processor; and (without being able to give the specs) there is of course the processor in your laptop.
In this course, the techniques of hardware-software codesign are explored.
